STEM Sisterhood

Welcome to STEM Sisterhood!

The numbers are staggering! In the United States, 55% of all 4-year college students are women and close to half of the overall workforce is female. Yet, women are still vastly underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math careers. And, this is after decades of initiatives (both public and private) to increase the numbers of women in these fields.

Most of these initiatives and programs seem or fall into 2 categories:

  1. High level, bureaucratic/academic solutions
  2. Admirable, but mostly local solutions

There’s nothing wrong with either of these approaches and we are certain that the people involved in these are dedicated and caring.  But, in many cases the message or the delivery simply miss the mark or are not reaching a wide enough audience.

There are many theories on why there are so few women in science, technology, engineering and math careers and plenty of disagreement.  In reality, it doesn’t really matter what the causes HAVE been, but rather what the SOLUTIONS can be:

Enter STEM Sisterhood…

STEM Sisterhood was founded to take a different approach to the challenge of increasing the number of women in science, technology, engineering and math careers.

The goal is to reach girls at key learning ages (11-16), inspire them by showcasing amazing women already succeeding in STEM fields and provide a (virtual) community for them.

STEM Sisterhood Has a 3-Part Mission:

1. Build AWARENESS: Use STEM Sisterhood website and relevant social media platforms to reach young women of all backgrounds with the message that “STEM can be for them”
2. Develop BELIEF: Showcase successful women already succeeding in STEM careers to inspire girls and young women to follow their lead
3.Establish CONNECTION: Grow STEM Sisterhood into a virtual community for girls and women in STEM fields to encourage, support and challenge each other

STEM SISTERS are girls and women who:

  • Share a common passion for the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math
  • Are committed to encouraging, supporting and challenging each other
  • Believe when one STEM Sister succeeds we all benefit collectively and change the world in powerful ways
